We care and we act by providing clothing to students in Title 1 schools. Proper attire increases self-confidence, builds self-esteem, school attendance and class participation.

Since April 2020, the share of children with at least one unemployed parent has consistently remained above reported rates during the peak of the Great Recession. More than 4 in 10 children live in a household struggling to meet basic expenses, and between 7 million and 11 million children live in households in which they are unable to eat enough because of the cost.

The poverty rate for children also differs by age, with the youngest children most likely to live under the official poverty line. Children under the age of 5 have a poverty rate of 15.5 percent, compared with 14.9 percent for children between ages 6 and 11 and 12.9 percent for those between ages 12 and 17. Those differences are due, in part, to the higher expenses associated with younger children, such as child care, and because parents tend to earn less earlier in their careers, when their children are younger.
